Sigma Kappa SVP Workshop
March 26 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Each year all students of the fraternity and sorority community complete one of the three Encouraging Positive Intervention in Chapters (EPIC educational programs). The goal of the EPIC rotation is to help the community members build a capacity to learn more about complex topics and how to take responsibility to address them. These programs include: alcohol and drug education, sexual violence prevention (SVP) – upstander strategies, and brave and bold dialogues. This year your chapters are scheduled to complete the sexual violence prevention (SVP) – upstander strategies.
This program includes completing an online module and attending an in-person training session with the Women’s Center.
The module includes foundations, a recap of the content included in the SVP: Core Course, and then a deep dive into the topic of being an upstander in potential sexual violence-related situations. Your members are already enrolled in the online module and received an email with more information about access and directions for completing the module through REPORTER, NC State’s registration platform for non-credit activity and required training.
As this will be a conversation around complex topics such as sexual violence so smaller group settings are most effective. To that end, either 50% of your chapter OR up to 50 members, whichever is smaller, will participate in the session facilitated by the Women’s Center. Your facilitator will be Kylin Adams, Assistant Director for Interpersonal Violence Prevention Education and Training. You can reach out to her with questions at Kaadamsw@ncsu.edu.
Conversations around sexual violence can be triggering. Please engage at a level that is safe for you and reach out for support as needed. Our percentages of participation are designed to provide grace for members who need to opt out.
However, it is our hope that every member can benefit from participating in upstander strategies by learning to build safer communities, take responsibility for themselves and others, and respond appropriately to those harmed. Thank you for your continued participation in our EPIC programs and for your commitment to support wellness – building your capacity around social responsibility, health and safety, and personal well-being.
