Closing Checklist
To prepare your bedroom and the community spaces for move-out and summer break, please follow these general check out expectations. Your organization may share additional expectations. To avoid any charges at closing, follow these general check-out instructions:
- Pick up all mail and packages. Be sure to change your address or forward your mail.
- Return all keys/fobs/temporary ID cards. To avoid lock re-core charges, you must return your key(s) according to check-out protocols for your community.
- Clean your room and common space, including wiping down all appliances, drawers, shelves, closets, and cabinets.
- Remove all personal belongings from your room and common areas before checking-out.
- Check laundry rooms and community spaces for missing items. The Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life, nor House Corporations, are responsible for items left behind after you check-out.
- Discard all trash in the exterior dumpsters and recycle bins. Plan to discard trash in containers located outside your building. Leaving trash in your room may result in an improper check out fee being charged to your student account.
- Leave the empty trash bin and recycling bin, furniture, and other university or organization property in the room.
- Remove all perishable food, clean refrigerators, and unplug and defrost all micro-fridges.
- Report any maintenance concerns or damages using the online work order system for university-owned houses and via your organization’s process for privately-owned and operated houses.
- Close and lock all windows; set room thermostats to 70 degrees (set to Cool) or to the mid-setting with fan on low speed.
- Return dining items to the kitchen
- Turn off all lights, and close and lock all doors.
- Complete any additional organizational check-out procedures.
- If needed, obtain a free Move-Out Virtual Loading Permit on the Transportation Website (see below.)

Check-out protocols vary by facility in Greek Village. Look out for email communication from the Department of Fraternity and Sorority life, your House Corporation, and your House Director, Coordinator, or Chapter Resident Director (CRD) for detailed information regarding your check-out policies, procedures, and process.
