The Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life is a dynamic team with varied experience and expertise to support the Fraternity and Sorority Community at NC State.


Shelly Brown Dobek

Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life

Background: Shelly is a Delta Zeta from Southern Illinois University. Shelly earned her Master’s Degree from SIUC and worked at Bowling Green State University coordinating Leadership Programs, Sorority Housing and advising the NPHC for three years before joining the NC State staff in the Fall of 2001 as Associate Director of Greek Life. In July of 2013, she was appointed Interim Director of Greek Life. She was promoted to the role of Director of Greek Life in May 2014. She was elected to the Executive Board for the Association of Fraternity|Sorority Advisors for 3 terms and served as the 2012 President.


Michael Keane

Background: Michael received his Master’s of Counselor Education from Clemson University. Prior to that, he graduated from Furman University in Greenville, SC where he joined Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Michael has worked in fraternity and sorority life at Bowling Green State University and Virginia Tech developing living and learning communities through leadership and risk education, as well as managing fraternity and sorority housing. Michael is originally from Chicago.


Julie Bryant

Background: Julie is a graduate of James Madison University, where she became a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity. She received a Master of Education in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia. Julie has worked professionally in fraternity and sorority life for six years. Prior to joining the staff at NC State, she worked as the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life at George Mason University and the Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Involvement at the University of Montana.


Byron L. Harris

Background: Byron Harris is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Byron is a recent graduate of the College Student Affairs Program at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.  A Raleigh native, he is excited to return home to begin his professional career.


Haleigh Swenfurth

Background: Haleigh is a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity from North Carolina State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Extension Education and a minor in Leadership in Agriculture and Life Sciences in December 2020. Upon graduation, Haleigh worked as a Collegiate Development Consultant for Delta Gamma for the 2021-2022 term. She is excited to return to NC State!

Background: Alyssa is a member of Delta Sigma Theta and a 2021 graduate of NC State University.  She completing her second year in the Master of Social Work program at NC State.


Cassandra McIntyre
Administrative Specialist

Background: Cassandra comes to NC State after serving five years as the Executive Assistant to the Director of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.  She brings 20+ years of business experience to Fraternity and Sorority Life. Before her role at the museum, she worked as an office administrator in the Budget, Planning and Analysis division of the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources, now DEQ. Her background includes years in elementary education and training in business analytics and accounting. When she is away from work, she enjoys traveling, relaxing with a good book, and spending time with her family.


Isabel Perry

House Director
Alpha Delta Pi

Background: Isabel served as a safety, health, and security executive in a Fortune 50 with responsibilities for worldwide operations prior to becoming a keynote speaker. Her academic background (all from WV University) includes an undergraduate degree in interior design and a master’s and a doctorate in industrial safety, earned at night while she operated her construction business for 13 years.  She is beginning her seventh year as a House Director.

Shanci Robinson

Background: Shanci is a South Florida native dedicated to educational equity. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a master’s degree in Higher Education Policy. Shanci previously worked at Duke University, where she served as a Student Development Coordinator for three years.  She is a published author (1978), a member of Sigma Tau Delta, and mom of two Yorkies – Boss and Juicy.

 


Jody Morgan

House Director
Kappa Alpha Theta

Background: Jody joins NC State after serving as the House Director for Kappa Alpha Theta at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. Prior to working at W&L, she was a real estate agent and property manager in Virginia for over 20 years. She also worked in event planning and marketing for decades. Jody has three children and two grandchildren. In her spare time, she loves to paddle board, travel, and garden. 

 


Kallie Menard

Background: Kallie is a Chi Omega from Dallas, Texas, yeehaw! Kallie graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University this past spring with a Family and Consumer Sciences degree and an emphasis in High School Education. During her undergraduate career, she gained experience in Fratertunity Sorority Life, Admissions Tour Guide Program, Orientation, Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, leadership development, and held many campus leadership positions. Kallie is now pursuing her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration here at NC State. In addition to her role as a CRD, she as serves, as the Graduate Assistant for Student Government in the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. 

 


Madrina Stroup

Background: Madrina recently moved to Sunset Beach, NC from Oklahoma and is happy to be back in the South. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Mississippi State University and has worked in secondary education and petroleum land management. This is Madrina’s sixth year as a house director, and she previously worked with Kappa Alpha Order at both Mississippi State and the University of Oklahoma, and with Delta Chi at Mizzou. While not being a “mom away from home” for her fraternity residents, Madrina enjoys traveling, pilates reformer, gardening, going to concerts and cooking.

 


Ryan Velazquez

Pi Beta Phi (H4)

Background: Ryan is a 2021 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science, Education in Sport Industry. During her time at Ohio State, she joined the Zeta Alpha chapter of Chi Omega and was a recruitment guide for two years for the university’s Panhellenic Association. She was also heavily involved in the university’s athletic department and student-athlete development office. Ryan is currently pursuing her Masters of Education in Higher Education Administration at NC State. She serves as the graduate assistant for NC State Residential Learning’s Engineering Village, as well as a student mentor for the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes.  

 


Sabrina Balent

Background: Sabrina is an Alpha Xi Delta from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She graduated from UNCW in 2021 with her Bachelors in Communication Studies. She is now pursuing a Masters of Higher Education Administration. In her free time, Sabrina enjoys working out, playing video games, surfing, and rock climbing. 

 

 

Arden Richie

Background: Arden is a Phi Mu from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She was born and raised in the Baton Rouge area of Louisiana. Arden earned her Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies, Behavioral Sciences, from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She also earned Minors in Psychology and Sociology. Arden began her career in House Management and Personal Assisting in 2019. She previously served as the House Director for Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.

 


Anna Hartwell
House Director

Sigma Phi Epsilon

Background: Anna is a California native who spent the last 20 years in Syracuse, NY.  Her professional background is in purchasing and personal finance. Most recently, Anna served as the House Director at Sigma Kappa at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.  Anna has 3 children: a son who serves as a Chief in the Navy, a daughter in South Carolina, and a daughter currently living in China.  Anna is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, andEconomics with a concentration in Finance.  In her spare time, Anna loves to hike, bike, travel, and explore.

 


Renee Fox

House Director
Zeta Tau Alpha

Background:  Renee received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from the University of Illinois. Her Independent Plan of Study focused on Human Geography themes in Urban Planning with an interest in Architectural and Landscape History. She is currently pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture degree. She previously worked in marketing with a public health/education focus. Renee comes to NC State possessing an extensive volunteering history with non-profits focusing on community planning, historical preservation, the arts, and community services.
