Dear Greek Village Resident,
We want to update you on the impacts to campus from Governor Cooper’s most recent Executive Order, no. 189, which was issued yesterday. This Order extends the provisions of Executive Orders 181 and 188 and remains in effect until Feb. 28, 2021, at 5 p.m. These Executive Orders (“EOs”) include the following provisions:
- A Modified Stay-at-Home order: All individuals in North Carolina must stay at home or the place they will remain for the night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless an exception applies. Exceptions are listed in Section 4.3 of EO 181.
- Required face coverings: A face covering is required indoors where any member not of your household is present. Chapter Houses are NOT considered family units, so any common areas are public spaces, and masks are required. As a reminder, the university’s Protect the Pack Community Standards require face coverings to be worn at all times in the presence of another individual, including in your room or apartment.
- Limits to Gatherings and Events: Gatherings are limited to ten (10) individuals indoors or fifty (50) individuals outdoors. Events occurring outside the home must end by 10 p.m., and guests must leave and travel home or to the place they will stay for the night. (Please note, each room inside the chapter house has a maximum occupancy calculated per university standards during COVID. That number is posted and gatherings in those spaces are limited to that number which may be less than or greater than 10.)
- Restrictions on Businesses: The EOs maintain the types of businesses that must close by 10 p.m. Restaurants are among those businesses and the term “restaurant” includes cafeterias, food halls, food courts, and dining halls. Other types of businesses include fitness facilities, pools, movie theaters, museums, retail businesses, and bars. The ability to travel to obtain “take-out” food or receive delivery from restaurants after 10 p.m. is allowed under the EOs.
This list is not all-inclusive of the provisions contained in the EOs, and the complete orders can be viewed at the following links, Executive Order 189, Executive Order 188, and Executive Order 181. Further information about the order and answers to frequently asked questions can be found here.
As a reminder, all residents on-campus are expected to abide by the university’s Protect the Pack Community Standards, as well as state and local directives, including these Executive Orders.
University personnel (such as police, fire, and facilities) will still operate and respond as normal. FSL staff will be permitted to continue serving in normal capacity during this time period and will respond on-site in person as necessary.
